About us —
For nine years I sat in a construction bureau drawing stair details and balustrade sections for apartment blocks I'd never set foot in. Good money. Absolutely no smell of wood in the building.
My brother and I started DIRMADU in the spring of 2024, in a unit behind Mourne Road that we're still not sure is big enough. First job was a bookcase for our mother's alcove — the Victorian kind where nothing is square and every wall leans a different way. She's still telling the neighbours about it, which is roughly how we got the next four jobs.
Two of us, one old Wadkin bandsaw, and a waiting list that gets embarrassing around October. Every piece leaves here with the date and the maker's initials in pencil under the top.

Prices are for the standard size in the wood listed. Change the dimensions, the timber or the finish and the price moves — usually not by much. Add what you like to the basket and we'll confirm everything by email before a cent is paid.

Not held in stock — it takes up half the shop floor while it's being built, so we only start one when it's paid for. Roughly seven weeks from deposit. Solid doors, no glass, adjustable shelves inside, soft-close hinges.

How we work —
Four steps, about five weeks on average. Nobody gets a surprise invoice at the end of it.
Tell us roughly what you're after. A photo of the room helps more than measurements at this stage.
We measure, look at the light, check whether the floor is level. It rarely is.
You get a drawing and a fixed price within four working days. 40% deposit starts the clock.
Four to seven weeks depending on the queue. We deliver, fit it, and take the offcuts home.

A year and a half on and the oak top has one water ring on it, entirely my own fault, and Colm came back out and sanded and re-oiled that section for nothing. The Sandyford stuff my sister bought is already peeling at the edges. So. Worth the extra.
